There are not many places outside the Lonestar State where you can hear so many Texas twangs and yodels as in Nashville. Since the days of Davy Crockett and former Tennessee Governor Sam Houston, folks in Nashville have had a special love for Texas. We still do. This winter as the weather turned cold and dreary, the bigwigs at BMI celebrated Texas songwriters in an invitation-only songwrighters night in Nashville. Honky Tonk World Headquarters' favorite, Texas beauty Sunny Sweeney, Bill Carter, who wrote "Crossfire" for Stevie Ray Vaughn, Monte Warden who co-wrote "Desperately" by George Strait and Bruce Robison who wrote Strait's hit "Wrapped" passed around the guitar and gave Music City a taste of Texas. Tennesseans by the thousands marched into battle during the Texas War of Independence and now Texas songwriters are returnng the favor by pumping their downhome brand of genuine country tunes into the Nashville music business at a time when Music Row seems to have lost it's country soul. Five-time Entertainer of the Year, Hank Williams, Jr. is a giant in country music. As the voice of Monday Night Football for 19 years he can ignite a crowd with his famous words, “Are you ready for some football?!!” He is also the first country performer to ever receive an Emmy and three more soon followed. He is the original country boy who has carved his own path in this industry, staying true to himself and proving that “A Country Boy Can Survive.”
